Why Us?

Catholic Life & Mission

We are committed to building a vibrant faith community and by engaging with our religious curriculum, social justice initiatives, and the college’s rich liturgical life, both students and staff are provided with meaningful opportunities to deepen their relationship with God and with one another.

The College is closely involved with Gosford Parish, with our masses and liturgies often led by priests from the parish.

Liturgy

St Joseph’s Catholic College places significant emphasis on the celebration of Liturgy in the community. Liturgy is a central expression of our Catholic identity and community. Throughout the year, we gather for liturgical celebrations to mark significant moments in the life of our school. These include the beginning and end of the school year, as well as other important occasions and feast days that hold special meaning for our community.

  • The Feast of St Joseph
  • The Feast of Mary MacKillop
  • JJAMM Week
  • Year 12 Graduation
  • Mother’s Day
  • Father’s Day

In addition to the calendar of the school year, St Joseph’s is also attuned to the liturgical seasons of the Church’s year. Liturgical events mark the significant days and seasons of the Church’s year such as Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and the seasons of Advent, Lent and Easter.

Celebrating Being Catholic Together

St Joseph’s collaborates with Mission Broken Bay and other Catholic schools in the Diocese to create opportunities for students to experience the life of the Church in positive, engaging, and dynamic ways. Through these partnerships, our students participate in vibrant faith events such as World Youth Day, the Australian Catholic Youth Festival, and the Ignite Youth Conference.

In addition, we are proud to be part of Connect Catholic Coasties, a local initiative that brings Catholic schools together for one shared event each term. These experiences help our young people grow in faith, build community, and encounter Christ in meaningful ways.

Retreats and Reflection Days

Retreats and reflection days are a vital part of nurturing the spiritual and personal growth of our students. These experiences offer sacred time away from the everyday routine, allowing students to pause, reflect, and reconnect—with themselves, with others, and with God.

Through prayer, discussion, and guided activities, students explore themes such as identity, gratitude, relationships, and faith. These days foster a sense of community, deepen understanding of Gospel values, and encourage students to live with purpose and compassion.

All Retreats and Reflection Day programs aim to:

  • be centred on Christ
  • be true to our Catholic life and mission
  • be relevant and engaging to the student’s stage of life
  • provide regular opportunities for the students to reflect on their spiritual life and deepen their connection with God
  • empower students to participate in their own regular prayer life
  • provide opportunities for reconciliation and inter-personal growth as members of our college community
