Wellbeing for Learning
Student Leadership
Throughout their time at the college, students are encouraged to develop leadership skills that enable them to take initiative and contribute meaningfully to the wider community. They demonstrate leadership by:
- Leading – Showing initiative, embracing challenges, and taking responsibility for their own learning and actions.
- Connecting – Building meaningful relationships within the college community.
- Engaging – Participating in diverse and impactful college experiences that inspire them to create positive change.
- Learning – Developing lifelong skills through a process driven by innovation, relevance, achievement, and independence.
The college offers students a variety of leadership opportunities throughout all year groups, ensuring that students emerge as confident leaders, ready to make a difference beyond the college environment.
The College Captain and Vice-captains are inspiring student leaders who embody the values, vision, and spirit of our college community. As representatives of their peers, they lead with integrity, enthusiasm, and take on key responsibilities, including supporting student initiatives, representing the school at various events, and working closely with staff to drive meaningful change.
The college Captain and two Vice-captains are appointed following a selection process that involves an application speech, both peer and staff voting process and an interview.
Our college Portfolio Captains play a vital leadership role, guiding their peers and driving initiatives within the below areas of college life, actively collaborating with teachers and fellow students to organize events, mentor younger students, and champion meaningful projects:
- CAPA
- Environmental
- Catholic Life and Mission
- Academic Activities
- SRC & Student Leadership
- Sport
- Community
- Communications
- Social Justice
The Portfolio Leaders are appointed following a selection process that involves an application speech, both peer and staff voting process and an interview.
House Captains are passionate student leaders who foster team spirit, inclusivity, and camaraderie within our six college houses, playing a key role in organizing house events, encouraging participation in competitions, and motivating their peers to achieve personal and team success.
Students are voted by their peers into the position of House Leader, with 2 leaders elected for each house, who work closely with staff Leaders of House to build community, organise inter-house carnivals and activities, and organise various social justice and fund-raising initiatives throughout the college year.
Students learn to lead through serving on the Student Representative Council. It consists of the Executive (College Captain and the Vice-captains) and a rep from each year group.
The SRC empowers students by giving them a voice in shaping school life. Through their year-group representatives, students can raise issues and share ideas for improvement. All proposals are discussed and voted on by the SRC before being presented to the Principal for consideration by the College Executive.
The SRC provides a way for the college leadership team and staff to listen to student voices and involve them in decision-making where appropriate.
Max Potential is a local innovative youth leadership development program and one of Australia’s longest-running initiatives in this field. It connects high school students with local community and business leaders who are trained as coaches, helping participants unlock their leadership potential and equips them with valuable skills in personal growth and entrepreneurial development.
Early in the school year, Year 11 students are introduced to the Max Potential program and invited to apply for this unique leadership opportunity.
