Wellbeing for Learning
Student Wellbeing for Learning
At St Joseph’s, student wellbeing is the foundation of every learning experience. We are dedicated to creating a nurturing, inclusive, and faith-centred environment where every student feels known, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Our wellbeing approach combines purposeful programs, strong community connections, dedicated supportive wellbeing spaces, and a restorative mindset. Together, these elements ensure that each student is equipped with the skills, confidence, and care she needs to flourish both academically and personally.
By focusing on the whole person, we encourage our students to embrace their strengths, meet challenges with courage and resilience, and actively contribute to a vibrant school community, growing into compassionate, capable young women who make a positive impact beyond our gates.
STUDENT WELLBEING PROGRAMS
We know that students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and valued. Our Wellbeing for Learning Framework brings together faith, care, and high expectations to help every student thrive, academically, socially, and spiritually.
What Does This Mean for Your Child?
Our approach is guided by the values that shape our community:
- Respect – Treating every person with dignity and care.
- Compassion – Showing kindness and understanding in all relationships.
- Hope – Believing in each student’s potential and encouraging a positive outlook.
- Justice – Acting fairly and working for the common good.
How We Support Wellbeing
- Clear routines and expectations that create a calm, positive learning environment.
- Opportunities for leadership, service, and spiritual formation.
- Positive behaviour strategies that focus on encouragement and restorative practices.
- Strong partnerships with families and the wider community.
Why It Matters
Our goal is simple: to help every student feel safe, connected, and ready to learn. By living the Gospel values of compassion, justice, hope, and respect, just as Mary MacKillop did, we strive to be a school where young women are empowered to flourish and inspired to make a difference in the world
House System
Every student and staff member is part of one of the six College Houses, fostering a strong sense of community and belonging. The Houses comprise of students from Years 7-12, ensuring continuity and connection.
The House System enhances student engagement across spiritual, sporting, and academic events, encouraging participation, teamwork, and House spirit and allowing students to build relationships, develop leadership skills, and experience a deep connection to their school community.
Each house is named after a Sister of St Joseph who ministered in our East Gosford school community. Each Josephite sister brought with her the strong MacKillop tradition of ‘never seeing a need without doing something about it’ which is a key foundation statement in the college mission of empowering young women to make a difference in the spirit of Mary MacKillop.
