Public Speaking & Debating

At the Josie Mitchell event, the college has not only secured first place on several occasions but has also consistently been recognised as a finalist.

The Junior and Senior Secondary Speaking Competitions offer students a unique opportunity to compete with other schools on the Central Coast and across New South Wales while receiving expert guidance and insights from renowned adjudicators. Our college proudly upholds a longstanding tradition of success in these events.

Students can also participate in lunchtime debating competitions.

Debating and public speaking encourage students to develop the following:

Confidence in Public Speaking: Develop the self-assurance to address a large audience with ease.

Persuasive Communication: Cultivate the ability to present reasoned arguments in a compelling manner.

Balanced Perspective: Recognise that most issues have multiple sides, fostering an inclusive viewpoint.

Mutual Respect: Value and encourage the opinions of others by ensuring everyone has a chance to speak.

Time Management: Learn to prioritise content and deliver your message effectively within a set timeframe.

Structured Delivery: Organise your thoughts to clearly introduce, develop, and summarise your key points.

Informed Awareness: Build a broad understanding of current affairs through dedicated research and active debate.
